Bachmann Software Adds Bluetooth Connectivity for Handheld Printing

New Wireless Printing Capability to be Unveiled at COMDEX/Fall 2000

SPARTA, N.J. - November 2, 2000 - Bachmann Software & Services announced today that it has unveiled Bluetoothô wireless printing capabilities for its popular PrintBoy“ software. The result will be mobile printing for handhelds at greater distances than ever.

Bachmann was invited by InnTechnology and TROY XCD to join other industry leaders in a demonstration of Bluetooth wireless printing from a handheld computer Monday, Nov. 13, during COMDEX/Fall 2000 in Las Vegas.

During the demonstration, Bachmann will showcase its popular PrintBoy software, which will perform wireless printing from a Handspring Visor using Bluetooth technology to a Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet printer. The demonstration will be part of a larger event being hosted by InnTechnology featuring real-world Bluetooth applications at The Venetian hotel during COMDEX/Fall 2000, which is set for Nov. 13-17 in Las Vegas. Members of the press are invited to Monday's demonstration. To reserve a space, call (973) 376-9300.

Bluetooth (www.bluetooth.com) is a new wireless communications standard that enables short-distance links between computing and communication devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), printers, cellular telephones, networks and laptops. Bluetooth represents a significant improvement over today's limited infrared connections, extending the coverage area by a factor of 10 or more. The communications research firm Cahners In-Stat Group predicts that Bluetooth-enabled consumer products will exceed 1 billion by 2005.

Bachmann's PrintBoy is the most popular printing software for PDAs, enabling handheld users to print calendars, to-do lists, memos, addresses and more over either an infrared or serial cable connection to almost any printer. PrintBoy, enabled with Bluetooth technology, is scheduled for general release by year-end 2000.

"With this COMDEX demonstration, Bachmann will show dramatically increased printing capability over a greater distance using a Bluetooth printer connection. This represents a major step forward for handheld users, offering even more ways for them to use their personal mobile devices for both personal and professional use," said Glenn Bachmann, president of the Sparta, N.J., based Bachmann Software.

"With the expected increase in Bluetooth-enabled technologies, we are committed to working with hardware and software vendors to ensure that printing capabilities are among many of the advantages this technology can provide," Bachmann said.

Also participating in the demonstration are Bachmann's partners TROY XCD and Widcomm, Inc. A leading manufacturer of Bluetooth printing appliances, TROY will provide a Bluetooth access point to a HP printer. Widcomm, which creates Bluetooth-compatible adapters, will provide its BlueConnect Handspring adapter, enabling Bluetooth connectivity from a Handspring Visor.

The Bluetooth trademarks are owned by Telefonakktiebolaget L M Ericsson, Sweden.
