Q: I just ordered online and did not get my registration code yet?
A: Once you place your order online, you will receive an e-mail from us within approximately 48 hours. The e-mail will provide a link to download the software and a registration code. (If you ordered PrintBoy Premium for PPC from our website or via Handango you will receive your code immediately.)

Q: What is the difference between the trial version and registered version of PrintBoy?
A: The only difference between the trial version and registered version of the software is that the trial version has a 30-day time limitation and will stop operating after 30 days.

Q: How do I upgrade to PrintBoy for PPC version 7 ?
A: For more information on upgrading from previous versions of PrintBoy, please send your purchase information (date of purchase, website, email, etc.) and your device owner information to support@bachmannsoftware.com.

Q: My registration code does not work?
A: Please make sure you have downloaded and installed the correct version of PrintBoy for PPC. The registration codes we use are based upon your PPC Owner ID/name. If you changed the Owner ID/name on the PPC or submitted an incorrect name at purchase, PrintBoy cannot register because it does not recognize the code. When you purchased PrintBoy the code provided you with one user license of the software based up that Owner ID/name. If you just purchased PrintBoy and your code is not working please complete the support form on our site and include your name, email address, date of purchase, website you purchased from and your correct PPC Owner ID.

Q: Where do I find my Pocket PC Owner ID?
A: To find your Pocket PC Owner ID : On your Pocket PC go to the “Start” screen. There will be an item called “Owner”. This is where your Owner ID appears. If you have not yet assigned and Owner ID, you may do so now.

CONFIGURATION

Q: Does PrintBoy for Windows Mobile support Microsoft's .docx file format?
A: Microsoft only recently upgraded its Windows Mobile Office software to support viewing and editing of the .docx file format. Mobile Office 6.1 now has the ability to edit and view te .docx format. PrintBoy does not at present have printing support for the .docx format. We are investigating this and will make an announcement when support for .docx files becomes available. In the meantime, please save your .docx files in Microsoft Word's .doc format before printing.

Q: Printing from my PPC is very new to me. Where do I get started setting this up?
A: The best place to start is with the documentation.

Q: How do I choose the COM Port for Bluetooth on my PPC device?
A: For these purposes, the Serial port and COM port are the same thing. Apparently it is not enough to just try every port. On PocketPC, you can verify the serial port being used for bluetooth (for PPC devices not running WM5) as follows:

  • Tap on Start, then Settings
  • Tap on the Connections icon
  • Tap on the Bluetooth icon
  • There are a bunch of tabs along the bottom. Scroll to the right and you will see a tab called "Serial Port"
  • There will be an "Outgoing" and an "incoming" port assignment. The "outgoing" port number needs to match the Serial Port number you choose under Bluetooth in PrintBoy's PrintSetup.

For WM5 Printing via a Bluetooth connection from your Windows Mobile 5.0 device requires that you have first successfully created and established a Bluetooth partnership between your device and the printer's Bluetooth adapter. Creating this partnership allows PrintBoy to communicate over Bluetooth using the Serial Port service. If this partnership is not created properly, PrintBoy will not be able to print to your Bluetooth adapter.

Here are the setup instructions:

  • Tap Start->Settings->Connections->Bluetooth on your Windows Mobile 5.0 device.
  • On the Bluetooth screen, make sure that "Turn on Bluetooth" is checked in the "Mode" tab
  • Select the "Devices" tab, and tap New Partnership
  • Bluetooth will now discover any available Bluetooth devices. Select the item that represents your Bluetooth printer or print adapter.
  • If prompted, enter the proper passkey for your printer or adapter
  • If a successful partnership is made, you will now see an option called "Serial Port Service". Make sure you select this service.
  • Now go to the "COM ports" tab and select a new Outbound port. The port number assigned in this step will be the Com Port number that you will need to enter in PrintBoy's PrintSetup screen.

If you do not see an option to add a new Outbound port in the COM ports tab, this means you were not successful in establishing a partnership. Try again, and verify that your passkey is correct. If this problem persists, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your Bluetooth Printer or Bluetooth Print Adapter for assistance. PrintBoy will not be able to use the Bluetooth connection until a successful partnership is created between your device and your print adapter.

Q: I would like to print via IRDA. How can I tell if my printer is IR equipped?
A: Simply look at your printer to see if it has an IR port. It will look like a shiny, reddish-black square someplace on the front of the printer. If you are not sure, check your printer user guide, the printer manufacturer's website or the printer manufacturer directly. If you do not have an IR equipped printer, you can easily upgrade your printer with our, InfraReady Adapter (requires a parallel port connection) or a Wireless USB Bluetooth Printer Adapter.

Q: Can I use my sync cable to print using PrintBoy?
A: No, PrintBoy works by sending a formatted print job directly from your handheld to the printer, and does not make use of or require a PC connection.

Q: What do I need in order to print native Word documents from a Windows Mobile 5 device?
A: If your file is a native Microsoft Word (.doc), or a native Adobe (.pdf) file, PrintBoy will connect to the PrintBoy Remote conversion service to convert your file to a printable format. For a more detail explanation please see our documentation. documentation.

The conversion process is usually very quick, depending on the size of your file and the speed of your connection. If your file is a Pocket Word, Pocket Excel or Text File format, PrintBoy already can print it in its existing format, and will not need to convert.

Once any conversions are complete, you will presented with the PrintBoy “Ready To Print” screen.

A: No, PrintBoy for PPC version 7 does not yet support printing native Excel documents but we are planning this feature in a future release.

NETWORK PRINTING

Q: Can PrintBoy print to a Network printer?
A: PrintBoy allows you to print directly from your handheld to your printer, using infrared, Bluetooth or serial connection between the Palm device and the printer. If your network printer has an IR port and the printer was set up to acknowledge that port, you should be able to print. Take a look at our PrintBoy Premium Network Printing Pagesoftware for more information on printing via Network (802.11).

Q: How does PrintBoy network printing work?
A: For step-by-step instructions on printing via Network or using www.print-boy.com please view our Network Printing with PrintBoy - User Documentation.

Q: I have PrintBoy Premium and would like to print to my network printer. When setting this up in PrintBoy, where do I find the port? A: Generally you can try the default of 9100 but if that does not work you should check with your network administrator or in the documentation for the server.

Q: I am trying to set up my network printer. Where do i find the IP Address and port for the printer?
A: When printing via network your printer does need to have it's own IP address and port. If your printer has one your administrator should be able to tell you what it is.

Q: I don't think my network printer has its own IP address, but I can print to it from my Windows PC. How can I get PrintBoy to connect to this printer?
A: You can download and install PrintBoy Proxy Server, which allows you to print from PrintBoy to any locally attached or networked printers that your Windows PC can print to. Click here for more information on network printing and PrintBoy Proxy Server.

Q: I have a printer attached to my Windows PC. Can PrintBoy print to it?
A: You can download and install PrintBoy Proxy Server, which allows you to print from PrintBoy to any locally attached or networked printers that your Windows PC can print to. Click here for more information on network printing and PrintBoy Proxy Server.

Q: I have router (or Wi-fi access point) that provides a print server that uses the standard Unix LPR protocol. Can I use PrintBoy to print to printers using this method?
A: The key here is that it expects standard unix LPR. We currently don't support that protocol at this time.

Q: I have my network printer connected to a Linksys EFSP42 print server. How do I configure PrintBoy to be able to connect to my printer?
A: The Linksys print server uses a special port number that you must enter in PrintBoy's Print Setup. In Print Setup, edit the settings for your printer driver. Choose "Network" as the transport, and specify the IP address of your printer. In the Port field, change the default value of 9100 to be either 4010 for the Linksys parallel port 1, or 4020 for the Linksys parallel port 2.

Q: My e-mail address has changed. Do I need to change my profile on www.print-boy.com to use PrintBoy Discovery?
A: www.print-boy.com uses your e-mail address as a login ID only. Even though you have changed your personal e-mail address, you can continue to log into your profile using the old e-mail address, and PrintBoy Discovery will continue to work. If you do feel you need to change the e-mail address on www.print-boy.com, please be aware that the only way to accomplish this at present is to create an entirely new profile and re-enter your print driver and site configuration information.
